Las Palmas vs Granada Preview

Las Palmas and Granada meet in one of the biggest games of the season so far in the Spanish Segunda Division. These are two of the favourites for automatic promotion and it will be a good early test of both sides’ level.
After play-off heartbreak against local rivals Tenerife last season, Las Palmas have responded in exactly the right manner at the start of this. Despite a number of early injury problems, they really hit the ground running and have impressed at both ends of the pitch so far. With just one goal conceded in their six games, they are clearly not giving their opponents many openings, whilst at times carrying a real threat themselves.
The possession-heavy approach of García Pimienta, schooled in the Barcelona way after spending 15 years with the Catalan club’s youth and reserve teams in a coaching capacity, the 48 year old looks the perfect fit for Las Palmas. His side enjoyed a staggering 81% share of the ball in Santander last weekend and had 26 attempts on goal, but couldn’t find the breakthrough that would have sent them top of the table in a game that ended goalless.
They are level on points with Granada as a result with Aitor Karanaka’s side also making a pretty strong start overall following relegation. They’ve won 4 of their 6 games but there have already been two early setbacks which suggest this may not simply be a promotion parade for the Andalusian side who are the favourites to win LaLiga SmartBank.
They were hammered 4-0 on a really bad night in Eibar a fortnight ago, having suffered defeat at newly promoted Andorra just prior to that. They bounced back well last weekend though, beating bottom club Mirandes 2-1 at Los Carmenes. There were two more goals for Myrto Uzuni in that game and the Albanian international already looks like he could be one of the stars of the season in Spain’s second tier, but he will miss this game due to international duty.

Score Prediction: Las Palmas 1-0 Granada
Having scored 6 of Granada’s 9 goals this season, Myrto Uzuni is a major absentee here for the visitors in a game where they won’t expect to get too many chances against strong opponents. Las Palmas will need to be more clinical than they were last time out but they look capable of having the edge here with home advantage and may just claim the three points with Aitor Karanka’s side not enjoying life on the road in recent weeks.
