Real Valladolid vs Almeria Preview

Two newly promoted teams clash on Monday night in LaLiga to round off matchday 4. It’s a big one for the hosts who are winless after a difficult start to the season but they will see this game as one they have a significantly better chance in.

It’s too early to judge whether Real Valladolid are going to be competitive at this level. So far they’ve faced Villarreal, Sevilla and Barcelona with two of those games away and a return of one point is perhaps about as good as could realistically have been expected. With the window shut and those tricky fixtures out the way, there is a real sense that the season starts now for Pacheta and his team.

Deadline day was an active one at the Jose Zorrilla as long-serving Toni Villa departed to make way for fresh attacking recruits in the shape of Kenedy and Juanjo Narváez. Perhaps even more significantly in terms of this game, they are hopeful of having both Shon Weissman and Gonzalo Plata fit again and that should ensure they carry a bit more bite in the final third.

As for Almeria, they also had a busy end to the transfer window with striker Umar Sadiq finally departing to join Real Sociedad. He has scored two of their four goals so far this term having been so key in their run to promotion, so it goes without saying that his presence will be missed.

However Almeria wasted no time in spending much of the €20m fee they received for Sadiq. Two 20 year olds arrived on deadline day for a combined sum of around €17m with forward El Bilal Touré joining from Reims while winger Lazaro moved from Flamengo. They have continued to target young talent this summer which will make Almeria an interesting watch over the coming months but they did bring in a bit of top flight experience by signing Gonzalo Melero from Levante, also on the final day of the transfer window.

Score Prediction: Real Valladolid 1-1 Almeria

This is a very tough game to call with both teams still in the process of adapting to the top flight. Almeria will take great confidence into the game following their victory over Sevilla last time out but the loss of Sadiq and arrival of several new players will lead to Rubi having to change his approach a bit. It may take a bit of time for things to click there and the visitors might be content enough with a draw in the circumstances.
