Czech Republic vs Spain Preview

Spain’s UEFA Nations League campaign takes them to Prague this weekend for matchday two of six in the group stage. Luis Enrique will be using these games to experiment a little ahead of the World Cup, but he’ll also be keen to try and put as many points as possible on the board with an eye on reaching the Nations League Finals again.
Matchday 1 was the big all-Iberian showdown with Portugal. Spain led for most of the game thanks to Alvaro Morata’s 1st Half strike but ultimately they had to settle for a draw in Seville with Ricardo Horta equalising for the visitors. That continues the recent pattern of the Iberian neighbours drawing against one another and there’s a decent chance this group will come down to the final matchday when Spain travel to Portugal.
Luis Enrique is slightly hampered by selection issues for these games with the likes of Pedri and Thiago missing. There are plenty of places up for grabs in this Spain XI with rotation expected across the next three games. The likes of Ansu Fati, Koke, Dani Olmo and Raul De Tomas were only among the subs last time out and will hope to see more minutes here with chances expected.
Czech Republic could announce themselves as real contenders in this group by pulling off an upset here, having won their opening game against Switzerland. They rode their luck at times, but sealed victory thanks to an own goal and a strike from forward Jan Kuchta, his first in international football.
The Czechs won’t be going to the World Cup having suffered play-off heartbreak against Sweden in March. However their run to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020, which included a knockout win over the Netherlands, showed that they are a more than capable side with some proven performers such as West Ham’s Tomáš Souček among their ranks.
Czech Republic vs Spain Predictions
Score Prediction: Czech Republic 1-1 Spain
Injuries and the fatigue after a long season suggest we may not necessarily see the best of Spain this month and this is a tricky away fixture to have. Czech Republic will provide a more physical challenge than the one provided by Portugal but they have some technically gifted footballers too and this one may end up all square.
