Granada vs Omonia Preview

Granada vs Omonia preview

Granada’s European adventure continues on Thursday night when they play host to Omonia Nicosia at Los Carmenes. Diego Martinez’s side are doing brilliantly in their debut European campaign and could potentially seal progress to the knockout stage with two games to spare on Thursday night.

Having won the reverse fixture 2-0 in Cyprus a fortnight ago, Granada will move onto 10 points if they can complete the double over Omonia. That’s normally the benchmark figure that is enough for qualification and indeed they will have mathematically secured progress should both they and PAOK win in this group on Thursday night.

That trip to Cyprus did have a sour side to it though for Granada as they returned with several COVID cases in their camp which effectively resulted in them having to field a host of youth team players in their subsequent league game at Real Sociedad. They lost that and also lost at home to Real Valladolid at the weekend despite being able to field a much stronger eleven, but Martinez will be hoping it’s just a temporary blip in what has otherwise been another very strong season to date.

Granada will know more of what to expect from Omonia than they did heading into the game three weeks ago. Currently 5th in the Cypriot league, they were always going to be the outsiders in this group and that is how it has proved so far with their solitary point coming in their opening game against PAOK.

Head to Head

  • The sides met for the first time three weeks ago with Granada winning 2-0 in Cyprus.

Granada vs Omonia Predictions

Score Prediction: Granada 2-0 Omonia

Omonia are in poor form overall and are without a win in seven matches, including several Cypriot league fixtures. While they were reduced to 10 men in the First Half, they were second best throughout in the original meeting of these sides and it’s hard to see much changing this time around. Granada ought to win this game with some breathing space to virtually assure themselves a place in the knockout stage.
