Granada vs Real Valladolid Preview

Granada vs Real Valladolid preview

Granada return to league action after the chaos of their last game in San Sebastian here. The international break was pretty good timing for them after a COVID outbreak in their camp which left most of their first team squad unavailable last time out. They should be back close to full strength here for the visit of Real Valladolid.

Even though only a few members of his squad had actually tested positive, the league’s protocol meant that Diego Martinez ended up having to field a host of youth players in the 2-0 defeat at Anoeta a fortnight ago. That ended a four game unbeaten streak in LaLiga but overall, it has still been a brilliant start to the season both at home and in Europe for the Andalusian side. They are very well placed to progress in the Europa League when it resumes this week and will fancy they can get back to winning ways here.

Granada have taken 10 points from their 4 home games so far in LaLiga this season. They are one of the few teams who really do seem to have managed to maintain a home advantage, even when playing behind closed doors.

They are up against a Real Valladolid side that received a major boost when they managed to see off Athletic Club to win their first game of the season last time out. Sergio must have been starting to wonder if that first win was ever going to come and while they didn’t exactly dominate the game, goals from Fabian Orellana and Marcos Andre sealed a much needed three points.

If they could back it up with another win here, then the threat of a relegation battle would ease considerably and they’d start to believe they could put together another strong season. However with just one point on their travels in 4 away games so far, Real Valladolid are the clear underdogs heading into this one.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 4 Granada Wins, 1 Real Valladolid Win, 1 Draw.
  • Granada have won all of the last 3 league meetings at Los Carmenes.
  • Real Valladolid have only won 1 of the last 7 clashes.
  • That came via a 2-1 win in a 2017 Segunda Division game.

Team News

Yangel Herrera may be rested following his international commitments with Venezuela. Otherwise Granada should be back to full strength having been unable to field anything close to their strongest XI in San Sebastian.

Few changes are expected from the visitors having finally registered a win last time out. Kiko Olivas is their only definite absentee.

Predicted Granada Starting Lineup:

Silva – Neva, Sanchez, Duarte, Foulquier – Gonalons, Milla, Montoro – Machis, Soldado, Puertas (4-3-3)

Predicted Real Valladolid Starting Lineup:

Masip – Hervias, Nacho, Bruno, Joaquin – Orellana, San Emeterio, Alcaraz, Plano – Guardiola, Marcos Andre (4-4-2)

Granada vs Real Valladolid Predictions

Score Prediction: Granada 2-1 Real Valladolid

Real Valladolid will be feeling much better about themselves after that win last time out but it’s still a really tough game. While Granada did overachieve last season, their summer recruitment has pushed them onto another level and they are always strong at home. With the debacle that was their most recent match out the way, they look capable of getting back to winning ways.
