Eibar vs Getafe Preview

Two of the most direct teams in LaLiga meet on Sunday. Eibar and Getafe have both proved that small clubs can flourish in this league and they’ve largely provided the blueprint for many teams who have come up to the top flight in recent years. Both Jose Bordalas and José Luis Mendilibar have done wonderful jobs at their respective clubs but are struggling to live up to their own high standards a bit this season.

Eibar are hovering just above the bottom three and they do look like a team that is going to be involved in the relegation scrap this season. While they’ve picked up a couple of rare away wins, their form at Ipurua is starting to become a genuine cause for concern. Their home form has been the foundations for their ability to stay in LaLiga for so long but a return of just 2 points from 5 home games so far this season is not good enough.

They’ve not even had a particularly tough set of home fixtures. They’ve failed to score in each of their last three home outings with newly promoted Cadiz and Elche, as well as Osasuna providing the opposition.

As for Getafe, they headed into the international break on a particularly sour note with a 3-1 home defeat against Villarreal. It’s rare that Geta let in three goals in a match, let alone at home, but otherwise this season they have again been pretty solid at the back.

It is just one win in five league games for Bordalas’ men now though, which has set them back after a flying start to the season. That came in the form of a shock victory over Barcelona but they haven’t been able to turn that result into a building block.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Getafe Wins, 3 Draws.
  • Eibar haven’t beaten Getafe since a 3-1 win at Ipurua in November 2015.
  • Getafe have taken 7 points from their 3 league visits since then.
  • They are unbeaten in 7 games against Eibar overall.

Team News

Eibar could name the same XI that drew with Huesca with Cote their only absentee.

Getafe have Damian Suarez back from suspension while Nemanja Maksimovic is likely to return in midfield.

Predicted Eibar Starting Lineup:

Dmitrovic – Arbilla, Burgos, Oliveira, Pozo – Exposito, Alvarez – Gil, Inui, Rodrigues – Kike (4-2-3-1)

Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:

Soria – Olivera, Chema, Djene, Suarez – Cucurella, Maksimovic, Arambarri, Nyom – Mata, Cucho (4-4-2)

Eibar vs Getafe Predictions

Score Prediction: Eibar 1-1 Getafe

This game has draw written all over it. Eibar are yet to win at home this season while Getafe have failed to win away and while something in theory should give here, a draw still looks the more likely outcome with neither side currently looking convincing enough to see out the game and claim maximum points.
