Atletico Madrid vs Cadiz Preview

Atletico Madrid vs Cadiz predictions

What could be a fascinating tactical battle awaits on Saturday evening as Cadiz aim to extend their stunning 100% away record against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano. The secret is out to some extent as regards to the recipe for Cadiz’s success but finding a way to break them down and nullify their counter-attacking threat has so far proved difficult for opposing coaches.

Diego Simeone relishes a challenge and it’s going to be really interesting to see how his team approaches this. Atleti themselves are not a team that often dominates possession but they will almost certainly have the lion share of it here. El Cholo will be hoping that in-form Joao Felix can provide the spark to carve open this Cadiz back-line.

It has been a decent start in the league from Atleti who have reeled off three straight wins heading into this match, all by two goal margins. They’ve been solid defensively too with just 2 goals conceded, although their European adventures have highlighted some deficiencies and they will face a real battle to get out of their group when the Champions League returns after the international break, following a disappointing 1-1 draw in Moscow in midweek.

Cadiz have won all four of their away games to nil, an extraordinary achievement for a newly promoted side. Their latest success was a 2-0 victory at Eibar and they won’t fear the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano having already won away to Real Madrid this season. This will be a different kind of test though against a team that will mirror their 4-4-2 approach and almost certainly won’t offer them as much space to play in as recent opponents have.

Head to Head

  • The sides haven’t met competitively since 2005/06 – Cadiz’s last top flight season.
  • Atleti won 3-0 at the Vicente Calderon that season while the sides drew 1-1 in Andalusia.

Team News

Yannick Carrasco and Diego Costa are both still out for Atleti while Vitolo is a doubt. Geoffrey Kondogbia could make his debut from the bench.

Cadiz are missing Jose Mari due to a knee injury so Augusto Fernandez is set to start in what may be the only change.

Predicted Atleti Starting Lineup:

Oblak – Lodi, Gimenez, Savic, Trippier – Koke, Llorente, Saul, Correa – Felix, Suarez (4-4-2)

Predicted Cadiz Starting Lineup:

Ledesma – Espino, Cala, Fali, Akapo – Alex F’dez, Augusto F’dez, Jonsson, Sanchez – Negredo, Lozano (4-4-2)

Atletico Madrid vs Cadiz Predictions

Score Prediction: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Cadiz

Diego Simeone will know what to expect from Cadiz and he’s likely to show them a great deal of respect here with his team unlikely to push anywhere near as far forward as the likes of Eibar and Real Madrid have done against Alvaro Cervera’s side. A bit of a chess match could develop but Atleti are the side more likely to break the deadlock and if they fall behind, it’s very hard to see Cadiz coming back to get a result in a situation where they would have to chase the game.
