Las Palmas vs Girona Preview

Las Palmas vs Girona predictions

The late game in the Segunda Division on Saturday comes from Gran Canaria and it features two sides with recent memories of playing in the top flight. Girona look the team far more likely to be tasting top flight action in the near future with the Catalans putting a strong promotion push together while Las Palmas were starting to fear a drop to the Segunda B at the time the season came to an unexpected stop.

They currently sit in 14th place but with only a 3 point cushion on the relegation zone. Things could change very quickly though with two games per week coming up for all teams. Girona are 9 points better off than Las Palmas, a sufficient enough margin which sees them flying high in 5th place with a strong chance of securing a play-off position, although automatic promotion may be just out of reach.

It has been a strange season for Las Palmas. They’ve twice put together four-game winning streaks in the Segunda Division but aside from those runs, they’ve only actually won one other league match. Indeed they headed into the break without a victory in 12 games in all competitions and were sliding perilously close to real trouble. They’ve not won since Jonathan Viera’s loan spell concluded at the end of 2019. He remains the club’s top scorer this season with 10 goals in 13 appearances but nobody has really filled that void since his return to China.

As for Girona, they have the division’s most prolific scorer in their ranks with Cristhian Stuani having already netted 23 times. He’s too good for this league in truth and will be central to Girona’s promotion push over the coming weeks. Girona were in pretty good form at the time the season came to a halt with no defeats in their last 7 league matches.

Las Palmas vs Girona Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Girona

Las Palmas really haven’t looked good since the turn of the year and were hammered 4-0 at Sporting in their most recent league game. The pressure is on Pepe Mel to find the solution for their recent woes but it will be tough here against a Girona side that is fighting for an immediate return to the top flight. Despite a disappointing away record, the visitors may just edge this.

Las Palmas vs Girona H2H
