Levante vs Real Madrid Preview

Assuming Barcelona do defeat Eibar in their game, Real Madrid will be back in the familiar position of playing catch-up by the time this one kicks off but they will guarantee themselves top spot again with victory. Levante will be out to stop them though and they are a side that does have an eye for an upset.

They have already defeated Barça this season and were winners away to Real Madrid last term. However they don’t take good form into this game. Paco Lopez’s side have lost 5 of their last 6 in La Liga with the only exception being a 2-0 home win over struggling Leganes last time out at the Ciutat de Valencia. They do possess a healthy 55% home win ratio this term but they clearly will go into this one as the clear underdogs.

Real Madrid are hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 2-2 home draw with Celta Vigo last time out. It wasn’t a terrible performance from Los Blancos but it did end a 5 game winning streak in La Liga. With a huge Champions League clash with Manchester City, not to mention El Clasico to come over the next week, Zinedine Zidane may consider some rotation but with the title race so finely poised, it’s unlikely to be anything too radical.

One man who is likely to sit this one out is Ferland Mendy who is one game away from a ban and Zizou will certainly want him for the Clasico. That should see Marcelo start at left-back while the fit again Eden Hazard is likely to feature ahead of him on the left flank or potentially alongside Benzema in a two-man forward-line if Los Blancos opt to pack the midfield again.

Midfielder Ruben Rochina is Levante’s most significant absentee with Gonzalo Melero or Jose Luis Morales likely to get the nod on the right flank.

Levante vs Real Madrid Predictions

Score Prediction: 3-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid have looked just a touch more vulnerable defensively in recent weeks and with Mendy missing, Levante may look to get at Marcelo down their right with the pace of Morales. However it’s still a game Real Madrid should win and with Eden Hazard looking sharp on his return last week, they ought to head into a huge week with three points and real momentum.
