Alaves vs Cadiz Preview

Cadiz travel to Alaves on the final day in the knowledge that even a victory may not be enough to save them. However three points would give them a fighting chance and would be enough to keep them in the top flight should either Granada or Mallorca drop points in their games.
They will fancy their chances against an Alaves side that was relegated last weekend. While there has been a sense that the Vitoria side were probably going to go for some time, it was still disappointing to see the limp conclusion as they let a 1-0 goal slip to lose 3-1 at already relegated Levante. That spelt the end for Julio Velázquez and his team who would have retained a shot at safety here had they won that game.
To an extent, Alaves’ fall to the Segunda has been several years in the making. There has been no real sense of a project or long-term vision at the club for some time with coaches coming and going at a ridiculous rate. Late changes have helped them beat the drop in previous years but this season, this team has looked devoid of any real quality besides from Joselu up front and they can have few complaints about their demise.
Cadiz aren’t exactly a side blessed with many real stars either but they have worked well as a team in the second half of the season and shown plenty of fighting spirit to take their battle for survival to the final weekend despite a tough run-in in terms of fixtures. They impressed last weekend against a weakened Real Madrid side, drawing 1-1 in a game they probably should have won in the end.
That would have left them in control of their own destiny and not relying on favours elsewhere. However, Sergio will still know his team has a real chance if they can win here and they’ll fancy their chances of doing just that. Cadiz average a point per game on their travels this term which is the best record in the bottom nine and they’ll fancy Alaves might be there for the taking.

Alaves vs Cadiz Predictions
Score Prediction: Alaves 0-2 Cadiz
Cadiz should do what Alaves failed to do last weekend, and beat a Segunda-bound team to give themselves a fighting chance of staying up. While Alaves’ recent home form has been better, they’ve benefited from some well-timed fixtures and there’s a danger it all may fall apart for them here now their relegation has been confirmed.
