Barcelona vs Mallorca Preview

Barcelona entertain Mallorca this weekend in LaLiga and the Catalans are under a bit of pressure to produce a performance after 3 straight home defeats in all competitions. Mallorca are fighting for their lives and will be desperately hoping that Barça continue to misfire here.
Eintracht Frankfurt, Cadiz and Rayo Vallecano make up the unlikely trio of teams to have raided Camp Nou in recent weeks and those results do plenty of damage to the perception that Barcelona are a resurgent force under Xavi Hernandez. Injuries have played their part to some extent and it’s increasingly striking how badly Pedri is missed when he doesn’t play. On a more positive note, Barcelona may be able to welcome back his fellow young star Ansu Fati into the matchday squad here.
To some extent, Barcelona’s recent problems shouldn’t come as a complete shock. This was always going to be a big, long-term rebuilding job for Xavi and the impressive fashion with which his team coped with the first few months of 2022 was perhaps ahead of schedule in terms of that process. Recent setbacks do raise plenty of questions about certain players and areas of the team but they haven’t been too costly in terms of the only serious short-term goal that Xavi had when he took over – securing Champions League qualification which they remain on course to do.
Javier Aguirre’s short-term goals at Mallorca are equally clear. The recently appointed Mexican is here to keep the Balearic Island team in the league and he won’t care one bit how that is achieved. He has been quick to stamp his mark on this Mallorca side and will be content enough with a return of 6 points from 4 games so far, despite defeats in relegation six-pointers against Getafe and Elche.
Those sides are no longer in real danger of going down in any case, but crucially Mallorca did beat one team that certainly is last time out, with a 2-1 win against Alaves. Goals from Abdon Prats and Vedat Muriqi secured a vital three points although the latter is suspended here, a significant blow to Mallorca’s chances of getting a positive result at Camp Nou.

Barcelona vs Mallorca Predictions
Score Prediction: Barcelona 1-0 Mallorca
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out how Mallorca might set up here with Aguirre likely to park the bus and hope Barcelona’s recent problems in front of goal may continue. They don’t really possess the kind of pace to succeed on the break as Cadiz and Rayo have done of late though and a narrow home win still looks the most likely outcome.
