Sevilla vs Valencia Preview

One of the standout fixtures this midweek in LaLiga comes from the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. It sees Sevilla and Valencia meet and these are two of the clubs you expect to normally push the big two or three in LaLiga. Sevilla have been a lot closer than Valencia in recent years but there are signs Los Che may be on the right track again under new management.
Problems at Barcelona in particular suggest Sevilla have a genuine chance of finishing higher than 4th this season. They’ve made an unbeaten start to the new season and clearly are going to be pretty solid again although three straight draws in all competitions since the international break has just halted their progress a little.
It could have been considerably worse, were it not for the heroics of goalkeeper Bono. The Moroccan has faced no fewer than four penalties in Sevilla’s last two games, with only one resulting in a goal. Were it not for him, Sevilla could very well have come into this game following a Champions League home defeat followed by a league loss at Real Sociedad, but they’ve got away with it to some extent and Julen Lopetegui will expect his players to find an extra gear here.
Valencia meanwhile will have to pick themselves up after late heartbreak at the weekend. They were leading Real Madrid heading into the final five minutes of their meeting at Mestalla but ultimately left empty-handed after late goals from Vini Junior and Karim Benzema. That was their first defeat of the season and this is a tough game to have so soon after such a disappointment.
They did well to lead Madrid for so long given the injury problems that developed on Sunday. They lost Jose Gaya on the morning of the game and then had to withdraw both Carlos Soler and Thierry Correia within the opening 25 minutes. All three are expected to be out again here and those kinds of absences could be really significant as Valencia without Gaya and Soler in particular, are a significantly weaker side.

- Sevilla have won the last 4 meetings to nil.
- Valencia haven’t scored against Sevilla since a 1-1 draw in October 2019.
- They’ve lost on their last 3 trips to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Suso is Sevilla’s only injury concern heading into this game but they may rotate in some areas.
Carlos Soler, Jose Gaya, Denis Cheryshev and Thierry Correia are all out for the visitors due to injuries.
Predicted Sevilla Starting Lineup:

Sevilla vs Valencia Predictions
Score Prediction: Sevilla 2-0 Valencia
With some important players missing, it’s difficult to fancy Valencia here. Sevilla are solid at home and with bigger crowds now possible, they should have strong backing which can always make a difference at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. Their superior squad depth may also be a factor as they’ll have significantly better options to bring on off the bench.
