Girona have built on an excellent first season back in the top flight and are hoping to kick on and seal a place in Europe during the 2023/24 campaign. Below, we’ll take a look at the full Girona squad as Michel’s men target a first continental adventure.

Despite a fair bit of transfer activity in the summer with loan deals expiring and new loanees arriving, the Catalans look to have settled quite quickly on what their best eleven may be. We’ll also look at the Girona best XI as we see it.

What is Girona’s best lineup?

Girona best eleven

Michel has plenty of options now, but there is a pretty clear divide between starters and back-up players in some areas of the pitch. There is little doubt about the goalkeeper with Paulo Gazzaniga starting 28 times last season for the Catalan club before converting his Fulham loan deal into a permanent transfer in the summer of 2023.

Their system could be loosely seen as a 4-3-3 but it can naturally evolve into a 3-4-3 if the full-backs push up to become wing-backs and David Lopez drops back into his more natural central defensive role. The additions of Daley Blind and Eric Garcia in central defence give Michel’s a bit more quality in that area than he had last season while youngsters Miguel Gutierrez and Arnau Martinez are exciting full-backs that like to get forwards.

Midfielder Aleix Garcia is another of the first names on Michel’s teamsheet and a certain member of Girona’s best starting XI. The other midfield role is the source of more debate and may change depending on the opponent and fixture difficulty and any tweaks to the formation with a 4-2-3-1 system also possible.

Michel also appears to have a pretty clear first choice forward-line with exciting teenager Savio and Viktor Tsygankov the standout wide options and big factors in making Girona an exciting team to watch. Veteran striker Cristhian Stuani remains a goal threat up top, but we can expect Ukrainian Artem Dovbyk, a €7.75m signing from Dnipro, to be the main centre forward.

Girona fantasy football players – Who are the best scorers?

Girona are a team that does play an open brand of football which leaves them vulnerable at the back at times. They will continue to concede as well as score goals so keeper Paulo Gazzaniga may not be as reliable a source of clean sheets as other top half keepers in LaLiga.

Their full-backs are both players who are capable of chipping in with assists and potentially even goals. Arnau Martinez (currently facing strong competition for his place from Yan Couto) recorded 3 goals and 4 assists from 32 starts in his debut top flight campaign while Miguel Gutierrez netted twice and assisted 3 from left back from 27 starts last term. Those tallies could both increase in what looks like a stronger team this season.

As a certainty in the Girona lineup, Aleix Garcia is also a great option in any fantasy football game. He possesses the ability to score great goals such as the one he netted in the 1-0 win over Cadiz.

Although still only a teenager, Savio has already emerged as one of Girona’s best players and looks a huge prospect. He’s on loan from Troyes, who like Girona, are part of the City Football Group.

Best Girona Sorare stack – Gazzaniga | David Lopez | Aleix Garcia | Tsygankov | Savio

Girona are a good option for a full team stack on Sorare (sign up here to play the free LaLiga Amateur game) and you may be able to get better prices than on other players at more glamorous teams.

Gazzaniga is one of the safest goalkeeper picks in the division with no deputy that is likely to challenge while 34 year old David Lopez is currently the best scoring defender, helped by his tendency to play in midfield at times.

Aleix Garcia endured a dip in the second half of last season as he battled injuries, but has shown why he is a great Champion Europe midfielder option with a fine start to the 2023/24 season.

Savio and Viktor Tsygankov are the most natural options to complete a Girona attacking stack with healthy L15 averages and seemingly guaranteed places in the Girona best lineup when fully fit.
