On Sunday we have a huge match in Pamplona as Osasuna host Girona at El Sadar. A place in Europe potentially beckons for Osasuna and likewise for Girona. We should be in for a great match.

It has been yet again a very solid season for Osasuna who have improved again from the last season. Unfortunate in the Copa Del Rey Final and since that Final it hasn’t been the Osasuna we know in recent games.

In their last outing, Jagoba Arrasate’s side were 1-0 up early on. Argentinian forward Chimy Ávila’s header in the second minute put his side in the lead against relegation-threatened Getafe. Although Osasuna had the better chances in the first half, it was Luis Milla’s beautiful cross that found the head of Juanmi Latasa to make it 1-1 just before half time and in the final minute of the match Jaime Mata pounced on goalkeeper Sergio Herrera’s error to make it 2-1.

Los Rojillos have now lost four of their last six LaLiga matches with two wins in that run coming at home. Osasuna do have a decent record at home and another win here would see them qualify for the Europa Conference League. That would be their first time qualifying for European football since the 2006/07 season.

What a season it has been for Girona. In only their third campaign in the top flight, they could also qualify for Europe for the first time in their history if they win here and Athletic slip up against Real Madrid. Like Osasuna, recent form hasn’t been great for the Catalans with only one win in their last five games.

In their last outing, they were beaten at home 2-1 against Real Betis who were also fighting for a Europa League spot. Girona went ahead with a great goal from full back Miguel Gutiérrez, however two goals from Borja Iglesias were enough for a Betis win in an end-to-end match.

Head Coach Michel has been handed a new contract up until 2026. The fans love everything about him. His passion, his coaching style and speaking in Catalan in his interviews to the press. It really is a love affair. Could we see them in Europe next year?

Score Prediction: Osasuna 1-2 Girona

In what should be an even game, we could see it being very open rather quickly as both teams will go for the kill as they chase their European dream. It’s a match that could really go either way, but Girona have never been in Europe and that could just make them want this a little bit more.
