Real Madrid are back at the Santiago Bernabeu this weekend for a home game against lowly Almeria. These teams endured contrasting emotions in midweek with Los Blancos humbled by Girona while Almeria finally broke their away duck with victory at Getafe.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side were hampered by the late absences of Thibaut Courtois and Karim Benzema at Montilivi but they fielded a strong side apart from that so the manner of their 4-2 defeat was a surprise. With some favourable home fixtures to come, that result could prove absolutely decisive in securing Almeria’s top flight status. They climbed to 15th as a result of that win and have another massive game on Tuesday when they host bottom club Elche. The importance of that fixture and the congested schedule may prompt Rubi to rest a host of key men here in a game they’d most likely lose even with their strongest XI.
