Getafe vs Girona Preview
Getafe and Girona clash at the Coliseum in what feels like another very important game for the home team and their coach Quique Sanchez Flores. Girona can afford to be a bit more relaxed about things with back-to-back victories pushing them onto an impressive return of 30 points with 15 games still to play.
Getafe are 8 points and 8 places worse off with only Elche below them in the table. It hasn’t been a great season for the South Madrid club and Sanchez Flores has been under pressure from the getgo with many fans having turned against him. However the experienced boss does have a knack for getting results just when it feels like the tide may be fully turning against him.
A 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Valencia was vital in their last home game. However results really went against them last weekend with a host of bottom half sides winning while Getafe let a 1-0 lead slip to lose at Villarreal in the Monday game. They are almost always competitive, but you often sense that they are missing that spark in central and wide areas which is limiting the service they are able to provide to their main goal threat Enes Unal.
Girona certainly don’t have that problem. Aleix Garcia is enjoying a fine season in midfield and his stats stack up favourably against some of LaLiga’s very best midfielders. The Catalans also have plenty of attacking and wide options which has contributed to them scoring 9 goals in their last 2 league matches alone.
After demolishing Almeria 6-2 at home, they impressively went to San Mames and won 3-2 last time out. While Athletic may well have had one eye on their upcoming Copa del Rey Semi-Final, another Girona 1st Half goal blitz shows just how dangerous they can be and Getafe will need to make a solid opening here if they are to stand a chance of getting the positive result they really need.

Getafe are still a tricky team to play against and they don’t let opponents have it easy, but they are offering nowhere near as much as Girona in the final third right now.
