Rayo Vallecano vs Almeria Preview
The Monday night game in LaLiga this week takes place in Vallecas which has been the scene of some of the best action in Spain this season. Almeria have been quite a good watch too so there’s certainly the potential for a few goals here.
It’s the second successive Monday night outing for Rayo after their excellent win at Villarreal last week. Sergio Camello netted the only goal in the 70th minute and the young forward is enjoying a good season and right now you have to question if big name signing Raul De Tomas is even going to get into this team. He didn’t come off the bench at the Ceramica and is very unlikely to start here.
Defeats for the likes of Villarreal and Real Betis this weekend mean Rayo would jump to 5th with victory in this game. The European dream is very much alive for Andoni Iraola and his team at the midway point in the campaign. While it would still be a surprise to see Rayo in Europe next term, their current position feels like a fair reflection on their football so far this season which has mostly been excellent.
Almeria’s priority remains survival and they’ll be delighted by their tally of 22 points at the midway stage. They’d certainly have taken that return at the start of the season, not to mention after their four game losing streak ensured they reached matchday 7 with just 4 points on the board. While defensively there are still some doubts about this Almeria side, Rubi has found solutions in the final third and has been aided by some strong recruitment.
Recent signings Luis Suarez and Leo Baptistao both netted in the 3-1 win over Espanyol last time out and it was a really good performance from the Andalusian side with Adri Embarba also impressing against his former club. Those players should form the front three again here for what has the potential to be an eye-catching encounter with chances at both ends.
Team News & Possible Lineups
Possible XI: Dimitrievski – Fran Garcia, Catena, Lejeune, Balliu – Comesana, Valentin – Martin, Trejo, Isi – Camello (4-2-3-1)
Coach: Andoni Iraola
Possible XI: Fernando – Akieme, Ely, Babic, Pozo – De La Hoz, Robertone – Embarba, Melero, Baptistao – Luis Suarez (4-2-3-1)
Score Prediction: Rayo Vallecano 2-1 Almeria
This has the potential to be a good one but with home advantage, you have to just favour Rayo. Almeria’s 10 away matches this season in all competitions have produced 3 draws and 7 defeats and they’ve conceded twice or more in 6 of their last 7 on the road. They are carrying a genuine attacking threat though so ought to get on the scoresheet at some point in this one.
