Real Valladolid vs Valencia Preview

Sunday’s action in the Spanish top flight commences at the Jose Zorrilla where Valencia are the visitors. Both sides are in poor form with pressure growing on their respective coaches to stop the rot.
Pacheta will be given time to turn it around at Real Valladolid you’d imagine given the excellent overall job he has done, but their current form is deeply concerning. They’ve lost their last 5 league games to nil and there are clearly issues at both ends of the pitch that need addressing. There’s a limit to what can be done though given the relatively limited options Pacheta has to choose from but it could be an interesting end to the transfer window in Valladolid.
They have added former Granada winger Darwin Machis on a permanent deal which feels like a good signing although this game may come too soon for him to make a real impact. There has also been strong talk of a Premier League move for young right-back Ivan Fresneda with Borussia Dortmund also rumoured to be keen. Any potential deal could free up significant funds for Real Valladolid to do some late business and right now it feels like they certainly need some fresh blood.
These are also worrying times for Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso with the feel good factor at Mestalla that greeted the start of his reign long gone. They’ve only managed to take one point in LaLiga since the restart, not great when you consider they’ve hosted both Almeria and Cadiz. The Copa del Rey was shaping up to be a welcome distraction but that dream died in midweek as they sunk to a 3-1 home defeat in their Quarter-Final with Athletic.
A reaction is needed here given they are currently only 3 points above their opponents who sit in the relegation zone heading into this matchday. This Valencia team should have enough quality to avoid getting sucked into a relegation scrap but it’s a relatively young team and if the Valencia fanbase really does start to turn, it’s hard to know how this side would cope with that kind of environment.

Score Prediction: Real Valladolid 0-1 Valencia
Both teams are in need of a response here and neither will take any real confidence into the game. It’s unlikely to be a classic but of the two it’s certainly Valencia who are carrying much the greater goal threat and the visitors look the team more likely to find a winning goal.
