Girona vs Barcelona Preview

Girona match action

On Saturday we have a Catalan derby as league leaders Barcelona travel to Girona. We should be in for a good game and will hopefully see goals.

Girona are coming into this game a little battered and bruised. In their last outing it was looking like they had done enough to clinch a draw against Villarreal. Paulo Gazzaniga saved Gerard Moreno’s 93rd minute penalty with the game goalless and it looked like that was it, but the Yellow Submarine were awarded another penalty in the 101st minute and this time, although Gazzaniga went the right way, he couldn’t get to Dani Parejo’s spot kick. Girona had played well, especially considering they lost Santi Bueno with a second yellow card in the 78th minute.

That is one win now in five for Michel’s men. Although they are sitting nicely in the table, a couple more setbacks could yet see them plummet down towards danger. Going into this one, for Girona to get anything they must take the chances that come their way.

Barça are in good form at the minute. The Blaugranas see themselves at the top of the table and will be hoping to extend their lead at the top to six points with rivals Real Madrid playing on Sunday.

Xavi’s side are twelve games unbeaten in all competitions coming into this one. Although they have kept a clean sheet in their last two games, they have looked a little vulnerable at times. In the league, Getafe gave them plenty of problems and likewise 10 men Real Sociedad did in their last outing in the Copa Del Rey.

Head Coach Xavi Hernández will know his side will probably have to score more than one goal to get a victory here and also will be expecting a much better overall performance.

Score Prediction: Girona 1-3 Barcelona

As always, Girona will give their all till the final whistle and that is something Barcelona will have to deal with. Barcelona do have more quality around the pitch though and should have too much for this hard working Girona side. An away win looks hard to look past but expect a real battle.
