Getafe vs Real Betis Preview

Getafe match action

Saturday’s action in LaLiga concludes at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez where Real Betis are paying Getafe a visit. It’s a pressure game for the home team and coach Quique Sanchez Flores who is in danger of becoming the next managerial casualty in the Spanish top flight.

Sacking the 57 year old would seem a bit harsh given the wonderful job he did in steering Getafe to safety last season from a position of real peril but it hasn’t been at all convincing this term. Getafe are averaging less than a point per game which invariably translates to relegation form over the course of a season and they’ve not found any kind of home comfort which is in complete contrast to the momentum they managed to build at the Coliseum last season.

Their return from the World Cup was actually quite a positive one as they deservedly beat Mallorca 2-0 at home. However they’ve lost all three league games since then including losses against teams around them in the table in the shape of Espanyol and Sevilla. They may feel as though they could have taken something from both of those games though and the same is true of a spirited showing in the 1-0 defeat at Camp Nou last weekend.

Betis will come here expecting a tight game but they’ll be hoping their superior quality in the final third will be decisive. The visitors should have Nabil Fekir back and ought to be at full strength for this game in terms of their strongest XI, which will be a boost for Manuel Pellegrini whose side hasn’t looked particularly convincing in recent weeks.

January has brought with it a fair bit of speculation surrounding the futures of some of his key men and one of those players has departed with Alex Moreno joining Aston Villa. There was even talk of summer signing Luiz Henrique heading in the same direction and you sense Pellegrini will just be happy when January is over so he can get on with planning what could still be an exciting second half of the season for Betis who have a Europa League last 16 tie to look forward to and will be pushing for European qualification again via the league.

Score Prediction: Getafe 1-2 Real Betis

We’ve not seen the best of Betis since the resumption but they have all their main attacking weapons available here and we should see a better display than last weekend when Fekir was sidelined. Getafe haven’t been terrible this month but confidence levels will have taken a knock by three straight defeats and they are looking a little bit short on confidence in the final third and the visitors look the team more likely to edge this.
