Levante and Eibar meet in Valencia this Sunday in one of the standout fixtures in the Segunda Division so far this season. It’s 3rd vs 1st as we head into matchday 21, which marks the midway point in the campaign and it’s incredibly tight at the top with just 2 points separating the top 5 at the time of writing.

Having recovered from a desperately poor start, it does feel like Levante are the team with the greatest momentum and they will really fancy their chances of going on to secure promotion from here. They are unbeaten in 12 games in all competitions, winning 8 of them and that includes a statement win at early season leaders Alaves last time out.

Goals from Mohamed Bouldini and Son helped see off the Vitoria side and they’ll take confidence into another clash against Basque opposition here. The goals haven’t exactly been flowing at the Ciutat de Valencia for Levante under Javi Calleja though. Eibar also take plenty of momentum into this game having won each of their last 3 matches. Their 1-0 home triumph over an improving Real Oviedo last time out ensures they head into this weekend top of the table and they deserve credit for mounting another strong promotion push immediately following play-off heartbreak last year.

One area they could do with improving is one their travels. Gaizka Gartiano’s side have only taken 12 points from 10 away matches so far, half their home tally. They are by no means alone in this league in being much more comfortable on their own ground, but you sense the teams that ultimately go on to clinch promotion may well be those that can find a way to consistently win on their travels.
