Rayo Vallecano vs Real Madrid Preview

The Estadio de Vallecas welcomes league champions Real Madrid for the final fixture of matchday 13. Rayo will want to extend their two game winning streak while Real must return to winning ways in the league after their draw against Girona last weekend.
Rayo defeated Sevilla 1-0 in their most recent outing. Both teams had great chances to take the lead but it was the away team that opened the scoring. Alvaro Garcia ran onto a lovely, weighted, diagonal through ball, worked it onto his right foot before calmly finishing into the bottom left corner.
The side from Madrid are having a good start to the season. They’re in 9th position have picked up 18 out of a possible 36 points. They’re already in good contention to beat the drop but they must continue fighting for every possible point.
Former Real Madrid youth player, Fran Garcia, will want to impress the hierarchy of his boyhood club to secure a move back there this summer. Real may look to strengthen that position in the summer transfer window as they lack natural depth there.
The Bernabeu witnessed a 5-1 thumping of Celtic in Real’s final UCL fixture until February. This victory was crucial in many ways as a win secured their position at the top of the group and an emphatic win gave the players a much needed boost after two relatively poor performances.
Real Madrid will want to win their final two games before their players depart for the World Cup. Some players are returning from injury (Karim Benzema & Dani Ceballos) while others are trying to rediscover their form such as Marco Asensio and Thibaut Courtois.
Asensio is slowly finding his feet again. He’s leaving his heart out on the pitch while showing his quality at the same time. He may never be as explosive as he once was, but the talent is still there and this new role he’s playing in is allowing him to rejuvenate his career. He’s in good contention to start and he’ll be influential if the Whites are to win this game.
