Celta Vigo vs Osasuna Preview
Two northern clubs face off this weekend as Celta Vigo host Osasuna. The hosts will be playing their first match with a new manager at the helm whilst the away side will aim to improve on their impressive seventh place position.
Celta come into this match after a 3-1 loss away at Almeria. In the 25th minute of the game, Carles Perez laid the ball off to midfielder Gabri Veiga who placed an excellent shot from outside of the box into the underside of the crossbar to put Celta in front. Just after the half hour mark, however, Veiga was shown a straight red card for a stomp inside the Almeria half, although the Galicians were able to hold onto their lead until half time.
Not long after the break, Leo Baptistao broke down the right hand side and played the ball into Lazaro Vinicius who placed a smart finish into the far corner. Both teams would create chances but just before the hour mark it was a deflected effort from outside of the box from César De La Hoz which put Almeria in front. The Southern side were able to play out the rest of the match without any real trouble, and in injury time Dyego Sousa performed great skill after a short corner to break into the Celta box before the Brazilian passed the ball across goal for Iñigo Eguaras to score and wrap up all three points.
This loss came as the last straw for “Chacho” Coudet who was sacked in midweek. He leaves Celta just a point above the relegation zone and with seven losses this season, a few of which were fairly heavy. Former Sporting and Beşiktaş manager Carlos Carvalhal will take over after leaving his role in Abu Dhabi last month and the Portuguese would love a result here to kick off his stint in Northern Spain.
Osasuna enter this match after a rather comfortable home win against Real Valladolid. In the 10th minute, Roque Mesa gave away a clear penalty upon tripping up Manu Sanchez after the Atletico loanee performed a smart turn after entering the box. Chimy Avila would smash the ball in off the post to put Osasuna in front. Six minutes later, youngster Aimar Oroz ran down the right hand side and played the ball into Moi Gomez who’s relatively tame finish was able to beat Jordi Masip in the Valladolid goal. The hosts would have many other opportunities in the first half, but Masip was able to somewhat redeem himself with several saves.
Real Valladolid failed to really get back into the game in the second half, although Aitor was forced into making an excellent save in the 50th minute, rushing out to stop Shon Weissman’s volley. Kike Garcia had a few chances to grab another goal for Osasuna, but ultimately the match ended 2-0.
Osasuna are once again enjoying a strong start to the season and if other results go their way, a win at Celta this weekend could see Jagoba Arrasate’s side end the weekend in a European spot.
Team News & Possible Lineups
|Solari, De La Torre, Mallo

Score Prediction: Celta Vigo 2-2 Osasuna
Osasuna are a strong side and will be aiming to win in Galicia to move up in the table. However, Celta are a club who usually have a noticeable “new manager bounce” therefore it would not be a shock to see them gain some points here.
Regardless of the end result, this should be an entertaining match with both sides going at each other from the first minute until the last.
