Espanyol vs Elche Preview

On Sunday afternoon Espanyol host Elche in the RCDE Stadium. Both sides are in need of a good run of form so a win here is vital. This should be an interesting affair.
Espanyol got themselves in the win column last week and were hoping to make that a second mid-week away at Osasuna. After a decent first half it looked promising for Los Periquitos as Leandro Cabrera came close to opening the scoring. His header was denied by a great save from Osasuna’s Aitor Fernandez.
In the Second Half Osasuna grew into the game though and it was Ante Budimir’s 55th minute header that broke the deadlock. Both keepers had saves to make but the match ended 1-0. It is back to the drawing board again for Diego Martínez who is becoming frustrated with his side’s inconsistency and the pressure will be building and if they do not get a result here, the fans could even start to turn against their recently appointed coach.
Elche are also coming into this on the back of a loss to champions Real Madrid and still do not have a win this season. Los Ilicitanos are rock bottom of the table and things do not look good. The Elche board have put their faith in new Head Coach Jorge Almirón and believe he can turn things around but they are already in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom.
A win here would be a huge confidence boost to both coach and players. Elche did come here in January and pick up a 2-1 win and would love nothing more than to do that again.
