Cadiz vs Espanyol Preview

There’s a big game for both Cadiz and Espanyol this Sunday in LaLiga. It’s just one win apiece so far for these two sides and both coaches will see this as a good chance to put more points on the board.
Cadiz’s need is arguably more pressing given they sit only one place off the bottom heading into the weekend. However they’ve by no means been cut adrift as briefly threatened to be the case when they started the season with five straight losses. Sergio deserves credit for riding out the storm and so do his players for grinding out a couple of badly needed results.
They weren’t at all convincing in their recent 1-0 win at Real Valladolid. On another night they could easily have lost the game which may have cost Sergio his job but Alvaro Negredo’s late winner delivered a much needed confidence boost and they were a lot more solid defensively in their last game, a 0-0 draw against Villarreal.
Espanyol meanwhile have only one more point themselves with Diego Martinez not making the kind of impact many had hoped to date. He’s not under pressure exactly yet but he will start to receive a bit of criticism if results don’t turn around soon. His only victory to date came by a 1-0 margin in Bilbao at the start of last month.
It really should have been two but an awful goalkeeping error from Alvaro Fernandez cost Espanyol victory in the dying moments of their game against Valencia last weekend. To top it off, Martin Braithwaite, who scored the winning goal at San Mames, picked up a red card and will miss this match as a result which will limit the away team’s options in the final third.

Score Prediction: Cadiz 1-1 Espanyol
Neither of these sides look totally convincing right now. Espanyol certainly have more quality in their ranks and should eventually pull away from the relegation scrap, but they haven’t quite clicked so far under new management and with Cadiz playing with a bit more confidence now, the hosts may get a result.
