Cadiz vs Villarreal Preview

Two clubs boasting the nickname of the Yellow Submarine will battle it out this weekend as Cadiz host Villarreal at the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla. The home side will be looking to grab another victory after picking up their first points of the season last time out at Valladolid whilst Villarreal will be aiming to return to their early season form after failing to win either of their last two matches.
As mentioned, Cadiz’s last outing was an away game against fellow relegation battlers Real Valladolid. Valladolid will have felt the result did not show the reality of the match however, as Pacheta’s side had as many as six clear chances during the match, four of which fell to Israeli forward Shon Weissman. Also, in the second half, Oscar Plano would go close as his excellent long range strike hit the woodwork.
However, after managing to hold out until late in the game, Cadiz sent a cross into the box which was horribly misjudged by former Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo, allowing veteran Alvaro Negredo to tap the ball into an empty net and at last give Cadiz fans something to cheer about this campaign.
Unai Emery’s side meanwhile come into this match after a 1-1 draw with Sevilla. The Andalusians would take the lead early on as Isco showed patient hold up play before playing a smart pass into Oliver Torres who finished off the move in the eighth minute of the match.
Dani Parejo would hit the crossbar with a shot from outside the box nearly twenty minutes after, however it would take until the second half for Villarreal to find an equaliser. Francis Coquelin accelerated in the midfield area before playing a defence splitting through pass to Alex Baena who finished the chance, albeit with an aid of luck when the ball bounced back off of him after Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic attempted to make a save.
If Cadiz can grab a result against Villarreal, they have a good chance of moving out of the bottom three whilst Unai Emery’s side will be looking to play catch up on Real Madrid, Barça and Betis.

Both teams are set up in strong defensive structures, meaning this match will likely be slow paced and not have a huge amount of chances. Overall, Villarreal’s quality may be what makes the difference in this match, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Unai Emery’s side edge a victory here by a single goal.
