Real Betis vs Girona Preview

On Sunday the action is in Andalusia as Real Betis host Girona in the Estadio Benito Villamarín. The last time these two played, it was end to end and a thrilling match. Let’s hope for the same again here.
Betis are coming into this match in fine form. It’s six wins and one loss in all competitions this season with that one loss coming against champions Real Madrid. Manuel Pellegrini’s side did make hard work of it in their last outing in Europe on Thursday against Ludogorets winning 3-2. The legendary Joaquín became the oldest goal scorer in Europa League history at the age of 41 and his sublime strike in the 39th minute will surely be a contender for the goal of the season in that competition.
This season, Betis’ aims will be making the top four. Head Coach Manuel Pellegrini has tightened up his defence and keeping his players fit will be key to this. It’s a case of so far, so good for Los Verdiblancos and a win at home is always important going into the international break which is followed by three away games.
Girona will be going into this one trying to get their first win on the road. In their last outing they beat fellow newly promoted side Real Valladolid 2-1. In an even match, Girona took the lead when Brazilian youngster Reinier opened the scoring with a nicely slotted finish. Valladolid made things even when former Girona player Monchu found the net from long range but it was new signing Oriol Romeu who was there at the right time as his 88th minute header sealed all three points for Michel’s men.
Girona will be hoping to stay in this game and if they can do that they will be confident of getting something out of it. Head Coach Michel knows his side are hard to break down but also knows they need to have that bit more cutting edge in front of goal. Not having their star striker Cristhian Stuani is certainly a big loss coming into this one.

Girona will work really hard and make it hard for Betis, possibly also being the first team to score here this season in LaLiga. They also will be hoping Thursday’s match has their opponents fatigued but Betis’ quality should shine through and with the form that they are in, it is hard to see anyone beating Manuel Pellegrini’s side at the Benito Villamarín right now. It looks to be a real fortress this season, even more so than before.
