Barcelona vs Elche Preview
On Saturday it is second vs second bottom as Barcelona host Elche in the Camp Nou. Looking at current form we should see goals here and plenty of them.
It has been a disappointing week so far for Barcelona Head Coach Xavi Hernández. His side lost to Bayern Munich mid-week in what could have been a totally different game if former Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski had put his chances away.
Xavi will be looking for his players to bounce back and put that result behind them. Barça have eight straight wins against Elche overall and will be hoping that will be nine after this one. Despite their loss midweek they are looking a formidable force and playing very well and will be confident going into this one. They will be looking to take their anger out on Elche after what many perceived to be an unfortunate defeat in Europe.
Elche have started the season really poorly taking one point out of five games, scoring only two and conceding thirteen. Los Franjiverdes were hammered 4-1 in their last outing by an in-form Athletic Club and going into this one confidence will be low.
On Tuesday, a group of fans had stormed into training demanding answers for the team’s poor form. Head Coach Francisco Rodríguez could be on his way out if results don’t dramatically improve and the worst possible opponents to face right now they are facing. Elche will have to be at their very best to get something here and will hope Barcelona are still a little punch drunk from their midweek game. History has shown us the last time Elche started the season with this record they recorded a 1-1 draw with Barcelona in their sixth game. Could history repeat itself here?
