Real Valladolid vs Cadiz Preview

Real Valladolid and Cadiz clash in the Friday night game this week in LaLiga. It’s a meeting between two of the relegation favourites and defeat for either here would be really damaging, even at this early stage in the season.
Of the two, it’s certainly Real Valladolid who have been more convincing. Their return of 4 points from 5 games is perhaps about where they might have expected to be given they’ve already played Barcelona, Sevilla and Villarreal. Their solitary win was well deserved at home to Almeria although they had to be patient with the only goal coming in the 93rd minute via Shon Weissman.
The Israeli striker is going to be key to their chances of beating the drop and will need to have a good season if Real Valladolid are going to stay afloat. He will compete with Sergi Guardiola for starts up top but it does feel like they are lacking in quality in some areas and Pacheta would have been disappointed by his team’s display last week as they sank to a 2-1 defeat at injury-ravaged Girona.
As for Cadiz, things already look really bleak. Five games, five defeats, no goals scored and 14 conceded paints a grim picture and they can have few complaints really with that return as they just haven’t been performing at anywhere near the level needed in this league. It’s perhaps more a story of Cadiz over-performing at the back-end of last season than under-performing now as there is a real shortage of quality in this side across the pitch.
You feel for Sergio a bit, but this does feel like a game he can’t afford to lose if he wants to stay in a job. It’s back at his old ground too with the 45 year old overseeing all of Real Valladolid’s three year stint in the top flight between 2018 and 2021. You’d like to think he will get a good reception despite that spell ending in relegation but his mind will be on more pressing matters here of desperately trying to spark some life into this Cadiz team.

Score Prediction: Real Valladolid 1-0 Cadiz
Even only five games in, this feels like a genuine relegation six pointer. Both sides will likely be in the relegation picture come May but you have to say Cadiz are a team in real danger of getting cut adrift. They are struggling at both ends of the pitch and right now. Real Valladolid look to have a bit more confidence and more in the way of a goal threat. A home win looks likely.
