Real Madrid vs Real Betis Preview

The only two teams who’ve maintained a 100% record this season meet at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday. Real Betis travel to the capital to take on Spanish and European Champions Real Madrid. It’s set to be a sensational game of football between two great teams.
Real Madrid took all three points away from the RCDE Stadium last weekend. Espanyol gave the champions a good game but an 88th minute Karim Benzema back-post finish broke their spirits. Four minutes later, their keeper, Benjamin Lecomte fouled Dani Ceballos on the edge of the 18 yard box and was sent off after a lengthy VAR check. Benzema converted the freekick and the game ended 3-1.
After losing Casemiro, Real Madrid’s defensive structure was always going to look a bit fragile. Yes, individually, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Kroos and Modric have been solid, but they still have to find the right balance. After the game, Carlo Ancelotti said “We still have to get used to seeing Tchouameni go forward and the other two midfielders should then stay back. We are working.”
Real Madrid haven’t scored against Real Betis in home games since the 2016/17 season when Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo netted in a 2-1 win. These types of records are never a good sign, but ultimately, records are meant to be broken. Los Blancos will also be looking to keep their first clean sheet of the campaign to gain more confidence in their defence and defensive structure.
Betis’ most recent victory was against Osasuna. A 34th minute Borja Iglesias worldie gave Los Verdiblancos their third win of the season. However Germán Pezzella will miss this game after receiving a red card in that match.
Betis finished 5 points off Sevilla in 4th place last season after occupying 3rd and 4th for large parts of the season. Sevilla are currently going through a bad run of form and although it’s still early, it’s not looking good for them this season. Betis should be aiming for that 4th spot this season which will guarantee them Champions League football, more finances and a greater pull to sign players. Winning this match would do a world of good for their confidence and morale.
