Elche vs Real Sociedad Preview
Saturday’s action in LaLiga starts in Elche where Real Sociedad are the visitors. The Basques will travel without Alexander Isak but with a reported €70m in the bank after his move to Newcastle and followers of the visitors will be very interested to see who the club can bring in over the coming days to replace him.
It’s less likely to be an active end to the window in Elche who did plenty of early business and appear to have a reasonable amount of depth to their squad although Francisco would probably like to see one or two players come in if possible. They’ve only netted once so far this term and that goal did come via a new signing with Barcelona loanee Alex Collado scoring in the 1-1 draw with Almeria last time out.
It wasn’t an entirely convincing showing from Elche though given they are usually strong at home, particularly against the kinds of teams they’d expect to be around them in the table. There was one positive with Lucas Boye getting some minutes off the bench after extended injury problems and if they can get him fit and firing again, that could make a big difference.
As for Real Sociedad, all the talk is about Isak and who they might sign to replace him heading into this game. The Swede scored in the 4-1 defeat to Barcelona only last weekend and there seemed no prospect of him departing at that point but La Real will feel they have got a very good price for a young player who really didn’t have a good season last time around and was incredibly wasteful in front of goal at times.
The hunt for a new number nine will now take precedence and it could even be that a couple of strikers come in as they appear very short on options for this game. Teenagers Mohamed-Ali Cho and Jon Karrikaburu appear to be fighting for one place in attack so Elche may just feel as though they are catching their opponents at a good moment.
Team News & Possible Lineups
Possible XI: Possible XI: Badia – Mojica, Bigas, Roco, Lirola – Morente, Gumbau, Mascarell, Collado – Roger Marti, Ponce (4-4-2)
|INJURED||Oyarzabal, Merquelanz, Rico, Carlos Fernandez|
Possible XI: Remiro – Munoz, Zubeldia, Le Normand, Elustondo – Merino, Zubimendi, – Kubo, Silva, Mendez – Cho (4-2-3-1)
Score Prediction: Elche 1-1 Real Sociedad
It’s hard to pick a winner here. Elche haven’t been great so far this season but with Real Sociedad losing Isak and missing long-term absentee Mikel Oyarzabal to injury, you wonder where the goals will come from in what will be an inexperienced front-line. A draw may be the outcome.
