Celta Vigo face Getafe on Wednesday in LaLiga in what is a really important game for the visitors. Jose Bordalas’ side are very much still in the relegation picture after a damaging weekend defeat but one win from their final three games may be all they need to beat the drop. It won’t come easily here though against an in-form Celta side.

They have arguably been the most improved team in LaLiga this season. That may in part be more a reflection on their underachievements in recent years but Chacho Coudet still deserves credit for turning their fortunes around. They head into this on a three game winning streak after an entertaining 4-2 win at Villarreal at the weekend.

In a game overshadowed by the referee, 3 penalties and 3 red cards were shown, although 2 of those reds were to Villarreal substitutes. A brace from Santi Mina helped Celta on their way to a valuable three points to keep them in the hunt for European qualification. Betis’ Monday night win was a setback to their chances but Celta will be just 2 points off 7th placed Villarreal with victory here.

As for Getafe, they have been familiar with late season battles for European qualification in recent years but it’s a very different story this time around. They had a chance to all but secure survival at the weekend but lost 1-0 at home to Eibar to an 89th minute penalty. Everyone connected with the club will be keen to get this season over with but they have work to do before they can fully plan for a summer rebuild.

Getafe are one of six teams in the relegation scrap and any of three could go down. Getafe are the best placed of the six, with a four point cushion on the drop-zone heading into this matchday while they also have a home game against an out of form Levante to come this weekend which should offer them another chance to secure safety if this match goes against them.

Team News

Facundo Ferreyra and Nestor Araujo are suspended. Renato Tapia and Jeison Murillo are out injured.

David Timor serves a ban for Getafe. Cucho Hernandez and Erick Cabaco are their main injury absentees.

Predicted Celta Vigo Starting Lineup:

Villar – Martin, Dominguez, Aidoo, Mallo – Beltran – Nolito, Suarez, Mendez – Mina, Aspas (4-1-3-2)

Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:

Soria – Olivera, Djene, Chakla, Suarez – Cucurella, Arambarri, Maksimovic, Nyom – Mata, Unal (4-4-2)

Celta Vigo vs Getafe Prediction: 2-0 Celta

Getafe haven’t convinced since the opening few weeks of the season and they look like they will sink to another defeat here. Celta are playing well and still have that outside shot at European qualification which should provide sufficient motivation for them to put in another strong display to see off Bordalas’ side.
