Granada vs Getafe Preview

The second match of La Liga’s grand plan to restart and ultimately finish the 2019/20 campaign comes from Los Cármenes. It sees two of this season’s success stories meet as 9th placed Granada host Getafe who are currently 5th. The visitors only need a point to move into the top four while victory for the Andalusians would see them past the magic 40 point mark with 10 games remaining.

That would be an absolutely fabulous achievement for Diego Martinez and his team, who were widely tipped to struggle on their return to the top flight. They got off to a flying start though, building on the momentum of their promotion winning year, and briefly topped LaLiga in the autumn. Their form tailed off during the winter months but Granada were unbeaten in four league games when the Spanish top flight was brought to a halt by the COVID-19 outbreak and only four sides can better their average of 2 points per home game.

Getafe though have La Liga’s 3rd best away record and will be hoping the absence of fans spells trouble for Granada’s strong home form. The South Madrid outfit are once again in strong European contention but went into the break having lost 3 out of 6 in all competitions, although they did have some tough games including their Europa League tie with Ajax which they won despite losing the 2nd leg. Their ability to get results on the road has been a key factor in their success this season with 6 wins and only 4 defeats from their 13 away league matches so far.

Getafe are though hampered here by three significant suspensions. Jaime Mata, Mauro Arambarri and Nemanja Maksimovic will all miss this game, meaning they will be without their most dangerous forward and first choice central midfield pairing. Granada meanwhile are without Antonio Puertas due to a ban.

Season Recap: La Liga 2019/20 – The Story so Far

Granada vs Getafe Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw

With results so far in the Bundesliga suggesting home advantage may no longer be a real factor with no fans in the ground, we might have fancied Getafe to win this one. However those three suspensions are significant and Granada should have more joy in the middle of the park with Arambarri and Maksimovic missing. It may also take Getafe a few games to build up the fitness to play with their usual high intensity style so an organised Granada side look capable of getting a result here.
