Barcelona vs Getafe Preview

While it may not sound much like it, this is very much a top of the table clash with 3rd placed Getafe currently just one place behind Barcelona. In truth, they are still competing for very different things but Geta will really underline their top four credentials if they can leave Camp Nou with a result.

They take better form into this game than Barcelona do but the Catalans did pick up an important win last weekend, as they saw off Real Betis 3-2 at the Benito Villamarin with Leo Messi creating all three goals. There were some signs that Quique Setien’s ideas are starting to filter through but their remain many areas of concern for Barcelona with Samuel Umtiti continuing to look out of sorts while they are yet to sign an emergency striker with Willian Jose currently looking the front-runner.

As for Getafe, they were outstanding in their last match and were full value for their 3-0 win over Valencia. That marked their fourth straight league win to nil and they’ve scored 8 goals without response since losing to Real Madrid at the start of January. It’ll be really interesting to see how bold Jose Bordalas is willing to be here against a Barcelona side that is clearly vulnerable but if the recent history of these games is anything to go by, he will still most likely play it very safe.

Clement Lenglet is suspended for Barcelona after his red card in Seville so Umtiti will get another start in defence which is something that Getafe may try to exploit. Damian Suarez is the biggest absentee for the visitors and that should see Allan Nyom drop back to full-back with Jason coming into the team on the right flank.

Barcelona vs Getafe Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Barcelona

Getafe’s record against the ‘big three’ is not at all good, even during this remarkable rise under Bordalas. They are capable of making this tough for Barcelona but the Catalans have only dropped two home points all season in La Liga and you can normally rely on at least one moment of inspiration from Leo Messi each game, which may be all it takes to win this one.
