Celta Vigo vs Sevilla Preview

Sevilla head to Galicia this Sunday to take on one of La Liga’s biggest underachievers. Celta Vigo are not short on players who in theory should be able to fire them to at least a mid-table finish but they remain deep in the thick of the relegation scrap heading into this weekend’s game.

Celta Vigo are in fact La Liga’s lowest scorers this season with just 17 goals in 22 games. Iago Aspas alone has scored more than that in each of the last 3 seasons, including last term when he came back from injury to produce an extraordinary run of form to keep them up. They may need more Aspas heroics this time around with Celta having won just 1 of their last 14 league games and continuing to look short on attacking inspiration.

Putting the ball in the net has been a problem at times for Sevilla too. They sought to rectify that problem by signing Youssef En-Nesyri from Leganes in January but it hasn’t been the most convincing of starts to life in Seville for him and he may have to settle for a place on the bench again here. Julen Lopetegui’s men haven’t been setting the world on fire overall of late with just 2 wins in their last 7 league games and they now face a real fight to make the top four.

Victory here would be a big step back in the right direction. They are boosted by the return of Diego Carlos at centre-back while Suso, another of their January recruits, adds a fresh dimension to their attack. Meanwhile Fedor Smolov is in contention to lead the line for Celta in this game after the Russian joined in January.

Celta Vigo vs Sevilla Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Sevilla

Celta Vigo continue to unconvince and Sevilla look good for the win here. The visitors should be able to name their strongest eleven and having won over half of their away league games so far this term, they’ve plenty of reason to believe they can go to Balaidos and leave with maximum points.
