Real Betis vs Valencia Preview

This is one of the more attractive games this weekend as two of La Liga’s best supported teams meet in Seville. Both sides have often flattered to deceive this season but there has at least been clear evidence that Valencia are starting to find their feet following the upheaval earlier in the campaign when Marcelino was controversially replaced by Albert Celades.

This is a huge game for Betis boss Rubi. The pressure was already on with Betis languishing near the bottom of La Liga and a home defeat to city rivals Sevilla prior to the international break has only intensified that. Were Betis to suffer another home defeat then you would really start to fear for the former Espanyol coach whose side has won just 1 of their last 7 games.

Valencia do take form into this game. The international break came at a bad time for them with Los Che having reeled off 3 straight wins in all competitions, scoring 8 and conceding only twice. Celades appears to have found at least a temporary fix for the problems that plagued them in really poor performances away to Osasuna and Lille in October and they ought to fancy their chances here of extending that winning streak.

The hosts are missing Zouhair Feddal to suspension but are likely to continue with Marc Bartra operating in a holding midfield role. He’s just one of many Betis players who has struggled to find the kind of form that became the norm, certainly during the first half of Quique Setien’s reign.

Valencia have a whole host of injury problems though with 6 definite absentees ahead of this game while Carlos Soler and Ruben Sobrino are also carrying knocks which could leave Celades reliant on several young players to fill the substitutes bench.

Real Betis vs Valencia Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-2 Draw

This is a tricky one to call. At full strength, you’d have fancied Valencia to come here and turn this unconvincing Betis side over but with several injury problems at the back and in midfield, a point may be as good as it gets.
