El Clasico is the biggest fixture in world football, with meetings between Barcelona and Real Madrid the most-watched game on the Spanish football calendar. The clubs meet twice per season in LaLiga, but often more frequently than that, with regular clashes in cup competitions and pre-season fixtures.
Below, we’ll look at when El Clasico is next going to be played, the recent results between the clubs and all the potential meetings in 2025.
Attending the big match is possible, although often expensive with huge demand for the games. Anyone looking at getting tickets for El Clasico, will need to pay attention to on-sale dates and be prepared to pay much more than for a regular LaLiga fixture.
When is El Clasico next going to be played?
Date | Sunday May 11th 2025 |
Time | 16:15 |
Venue | Estadi Olimpic, Barcelona |
Competition | LaLiga |
The next Clasico match will be on Sunday May 11th and Barcelona will be at home. The Catalan giants had initially hoped to have returned to their usual home in the Les Corts neighbourhood of the city by then. However, Camp Nou renovation work has been hit by various delays and the fixture will take place at the Estadi Olimpic for the second season running.
A 16:15 kick-off time has been confirmed and the match is set to be billed as a title decider of sorts, so demand for tickets will be great. It will be matchday 35 in LaLiga, which is quite late for a Clasico, meaning the result will have a huge impact in determining who gets their hands on the trophy.
Barcelona are in pole position, with a four-point advantage on their great rivals at the time of writing. Therefore, the onus will be on Real Madrid to raid the Estadi Olimpic and claim a victory that would set up a grandstand finish to the campaign.
However, a Barca win would effectively end the race and leave Hansi Flick’s side on the brink of completing a sweep of the domestic trophies this season, following their Supercopa and Copa del Rey triumphs.

Barcelona had the better of the first two competitive El Clasico fixtures during the 2024/25 season, winning both convincingly, with nine goals scored. They also won a pre-season friendly in New Jersey 2-1, thanks to two goals from Pau Victor, although neither side were at full strength for that game.
They also edged out Los Blancos in the Copa del Rey final in extra time, in a more competitive affair in Seville in the most recent encounter. Real Madrid haven’t defeated their rivals since a 3-2 victory at the end of the 2023/24 LaLiga season, a golden campaign for Carlo Ancelotti’s side which delivered major Spanish and European silverware.

Last meeting: Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid (AET)
The most recent meeting of Barcelona and Real Madrid took place on Sunday April 26th 2025 in Seville. It was the first Copa del Rey final Clasico in more than a decade, and Barca went into the game as the clear favourites given their superiority in the season’s previous two meetings.
That trend continued initially, and Pedri fired them ahead in the 28th minute at La Cartuja. However, this time there was a strong response from Madrid who turned the game on its head thanks to a rare Kylian Mbappe free-kick and a strike from Aurelien Tchouameni.
There was still time for more twists and plenty more drama though in a typically eventful encounter. Ferran Torres forced extra time with an 84th minute leveller, and just when penalties looked certain, Barca grabbed the winner thanks to a strike from Jules Kounde. Three Real Madrid red cards followed in a chaotic final few minutes, including one for Antonio Rudiger for throwing an object at the referee.
El Clasico dates – Barcelona vs Real Madrid 2025 fixtures
The league encounter in May is the only remaining Clasico in the 2024/25 season. With Real Madrid out of the Champions League, there is no longer the potential for an additional meeting in that competition.
The clubs will also almost certainly face off again in LaLiga before the end of 2025 though, with the 2025/26 fixture list due to be announced in the summer. That game could be in Madrid or Barcelona.

In recent years, there has often been a pre-season friendly between the clubs in the United States as well. That looks less likely this season though, with Real Madrid’s schedule taking in the FIFA Club World Cup during the summer months, while Barcelona are believed to be plotting a pre-season tour of Asia.
