El Clasico is the biggest fixture in world football, with meetings between Barcelona and Real Madrid the most watched game on the Spanish football calendar. The clubs meet twice per season in LaLiga, but often more frequently than that, with regular clashes in cup competitions and pre-season fixtures.
Below, we’ll look at when El Clasico is next going to be played, the recent results between the clubs and all the potential meetings in 2025.
Attending the big match is possible, although often expensive with huge demand for the games. Anyone looking at getting tickets for El Clasico, will need to pay attention to on-sale dates and be prepared to pay much more than for a regular LaLiga fixture.
When is El Clasico next going to be played?
Date | Weekend of May 10th/11th 2025 |
Time | TBC |
Venue | Estadi Olimpic, Barcelona* |
Competition | LaLiga |
Unless the clubs are paired together in one of the cup competitions, the next Clasico match will be in LaLiga on the weekend of May 10th/11th 2025 and Barcelona will be at home. That will be matchday 35 out of 38, so it has the potential to be a huge game and will no doubt be billed as a title-decider should the two clubs be battling it out together at the top of the table.
*There is also some uncertainty around the venue, with Barcelona having initially hoped to have returned to Camp Nou by that point, following redevelopment work at their traditional home. However, there have been delays to that project, and the latest reports suggest the game will be played at the Estadi Olimpic where the club have been playing home games since the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
The exact Clasico date and time will be announced in due course, typically around a month before the fixture.

Barcelona have had the better of the two competitive El Clasico fixtures during the 2024/25 season so far, winning both convincingly, with nine goals scored. They also won a pre-season friendly in New Jersey 2-1, thanks to two goals from Pau Victor, although neither side were at full strength for that game.
Real Madrid won the first two meetings in 2024 though, defeating their eternal rivals in the Supercopa in Saudi Arabia, before a 3-2 win in LaLiga which helped leave them on course to win the Spanish title again.
Last meeting: Barcelona 5-2 Real Madrid
The most recent meeting of Barcelona and Real Madrid took place on Sunday 12th January in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Despite a 56th minute red card for goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona were at their blistering best, winning the match 5-2, with Raphinha scoring twice, to get their hands on the Spanish Supercopa trophy for the 15th time.
El Clasico dates – Barcelona vs Real Madrid 2025 fixtures
As it stands, there will only be one more Clasico in the 2024/25 season, with that match due to be played in LaLiga on the second weekend of May.
However, there is the potential for more meetings between the clubs. Depending on their progress in the competition, Barcelona and Real Madrid could be paired together in either the Copa del Rey semi-finals (two-legged tie) or potentially even the final itself which is scheduled to take place in Seville on Saturday 26th April.
Less likely, but not impossible, is the potential for a Champions League Clasico which would be an enormous occasion. The clubs haven’t met in Europe since a UCL semi-final in the 2010/11 season which Pep Guardiola’s Barca won 3-1 on aggregate.
The way the draw has been structured, the clubs cannot meet before the semi-final stage in the 2024/25 Champions League. Should both sides progress to the last four, we could see Barcelona and Real Madrid face off over two legs on 29th/30th April and 6th/7th May. However, the clubs could yet end up on opposite sides of the bracket altogether, meaning they wouldn’t be able to meet before the final in Munich on 31st May.
The clubs will also almost certainly face off again in LaLiga before the end of 2025, with the 2025/26 fixture list due to be announced in the summer. That game could be in Madrid or Barcelona.
In recent years, there has often been a pre-season friendly between the clubs in the United States as well. That looks less likely this season though, with Real Madrid’s schedule taking in the FIFA Club World Cup during the summer, while Barcelona are believed to be plotting a pre-season tour of Asia.
