Espanyol vs Girona Preview
This Friday evening brings us an all Catalan affair at the RCDE Stadium as league leaders Espanyol face off against Girona. We could be in for a great game. It is a derby and anything can happen and if history repeats itself we could be in for a surprise.
Espanyol drew with Fuenlabrada in their last outing. Vicente Moreno’s men showed glimpses of magic but overall struggled to get going all match, this partly down to Fuenla and how hard they worked. Something positive Moreno will take out of the game will be Raúl de Tomás and Adri Embarba’s partnership. They are just linking up wonderfully and both seem to be on the same page with that sixth sense to find each other on the pitch. The Blanquiazules will want to bounce back from their little setback and extend their lead at the top to five points.
Girona were unlucky in their last match with Mallorca and they just couldn’t find the back of the net. If they had their star man Christian Stuani playing it could have been a different story. Stuani has trained alone this week and it’s looking like it is going to be too soon for him to be ready for this match.
The list of players not available keeps growing for manager Francisco as Jonas Ramhalo was shown a straight red for shoving Marc Cardona in that game and their leading goal scorer Mamadou Sylla was also shown a second yellow for arguing the case. This is something Girona do not need right now, especially coming up against a powerhouse like Espanyol but it is a derby and as we all know anything can happen.

If history repeats itself Girona should get the win but history shouldn’t repeat itself. Girona are missing too many players to worry Espanyol. The form of R.D.T, Embarba and that rock solid defence will be too much for Franciso’s men. The only hope for Girona is it’s a derby match and form goes out of the window but it’s hard to look past a home win.
