There are 20 teams in LaLiga, currently spread out between nine different regions of Spain. Many of those clubs have very distinct identities, often closely linked to that of their city or local region. While the Madrid Community is currently home to 20% of all LaLiga teams, the 2025/26 Spanish top flight also features one island club, and spans the country’s mainland from the blustery shores of Galicia to sunny Andalusia.
2025/26 LaLiga teams map
A quick glance at the LaLiga clubs map for the 2025/26 season highlights just how spread out the sides are. While there are a few big clusters of teams in Madrid, the Valencian region, the Basque Country and Catalunya, most of the major regions in Spain are represented.
There’ll be no top-flight action in the Canary Islands this season following the relegation of Las Palmas. However, thanks to Real Oviedo’s promotion, the principality of Asturias is on the Primera Division map for the first time since the 2016/17 season when Sporting Gijon were relegated.
LaLiga teams in Madrid
- Real Madrid
- Atletico Madrid
- Rayo Vallecano
- Getafe
The LaLiga teams list currently has a distinct Madrileño flavour. Real, Atletico and barrio boys Rayo Vallecano are located within the city proper.
Meanwhile, Getafe are based in a commuter town to the south of the city, but with excellent transport links that will take you to the heart of the Spanish capital in less than 30 minutes. If you’re visiting Madrid during a regular LaLiga matchday, there should always be a game to catch.
LaLiga teams in the Valencian Community
- Valencia
- Villarreal
- Levante
- Elche
Valencia CF are by far the biggest club in this part of Spain, but they’ve been outperformed in recent years by Villarreal who are based around 60 km north in a small town, close to the larger city of Castellon.
Valencian representation in the Primera Division will double for the 2025/26 season after Levante and Elche both won automatic promotion from the second tier. Levante are based in the city of Valencia, only a 40-minute walk from Mestalla, the home of their local rivals. Meanwhile, Elche are based further south in the province of Alicante.
LaLiga teams in Catalunya
- Barcelona
- Girona
- Espanyol
There are two LaLiga teams in Barcelona. FC Barcelona’s traditional home is in Les Corts, although the club have been playing home games at the Estadi Olimpic over the past two years while renovation work went on at Camp Nou. They are set to return to their regular home for the 2025/26 campaign, although it won’t be operating at full capacity initially.
Espanyol are the other Barcelona club, although they are now based just outside of the city limits in Cornella de Llobregat. The third Catalan club is Girona who are located in a picturesque town not far from the French border, around 100 km northeast of Barcelona.
LaLiga teams in the Basque Country
- Athletic Club
- Real Sociedad
- Alaves
The Basque Country is another of the major Spanish football hotbeds. Vizcaya-based Athletic Club are one of three ever-presents in the Primera Division since its inaugural season in 1929.
Four of the 10 founding members of the league were actually Basque teams and each of the three Basque provinces are still represented in the league today, with Real Sociedad from Guipuzcoa, and Alaves from Alava.
LaLiga teams in Andalusia
- Sevilla
- Real Betis
Andalusia is the most populated and second-largest of the 17 autonomous communities of Spain.
It was home to five top-flight teams as recently as the 2023/24 season, but following the relegations of Cadiz, Granada and Almeria, only Sevilla and Real Betis, both in the city of Seville remain. Betis are moving to temporary accommodation at the 70,000-capacity La Cartuja for LaLiga 2025/26 while the Benito Villamarin gets a facelift.
Navarre
- Osasuna
Navarre (Navarra) is something of a disputed region which some view as part of the Basque Country. It is home to top-flight club Osasuna, based in the largest Navarrese city of Pamplona which is best known for its annual running of the bulls.
Galicia
- Celta Vigo
While Deportivo La Coruña brought the LaLiga title to Galicia in the 1999/00 season, the region’s only active club these days is Celta Vigo. Os Celestes are quite an isolated presence on the current LaLiga map, based on the Vigo Estuary which flows into the Atlantic Ocean, around a four-hour drive from any other team in Spain’s top league.
Asturias
- Real Oviedo
Real Oviedo spent four years in Spain’s fourth tier during the 2000s with the club’s very existence in doubt at times due to crippling financial problems. The Asturians eventually fought through those issues, returning to the Segunda Division in 2015, although it would take another decade for them to secure a top-flight return courtesy of a play-off final victory over Mirandes in 2025.
Balearic Islands
- Mallorca
Known internationally as a holiday island, Mallorca is also home to a large city by the name of Palma which is where the biggest of the Balearic clubs is located. RCD Mallorca are all set for their fifth consecutive season at the highest level, and 33rd overall.
