Cadiz vs Osasuna Preview
Osasuna make the long trip south to Cadiz this week. Both sides are in need of the points with the hosts battling for safety while the visitors are pushing for a top seven finish which would guarantee them European football in 2023/24.
Cadiz picked up what they’ll probably see as a useful point from their relegation six pointer at Espanyol last time out. While they were under the cosh for large periods of that game, they managed to come away with a 0-0 draw to maintain their 4 point advantage on their opponents. Valencia’s win at Elche means they are now just 2 points above the drop-zone though so there is a long way to go for Sergio’s men in their bid for survival.
After an excellent run of home results, Cadiz come into this following back-to-back losses at the Nuevo Mirandilla. Both came by 2-0 margins against a revitalised Sevilla and 2nd placed Real Madrid but Sergio may be a little concerned by his team’s failure to score in 3 of their last 4 games. He’ll also be pondering just how he keeps players fresh over the coming week with eight players currently sidelined though injury, a major limiting factor in terms of the potential for rotation.
Osasuna will certainly be looking to chop and change their starting eleven over this period with the cup final against Real Madrid on the horizon. They do have decent depth in many positions though and we saw more evidence of that as they beat Real Betis 3-2 at El Sadar at the weekend with Ante Budimir scoring twice in the opening 11 minutes.
The Croatian hasn’t had his best season but he is a player who often enjoys some hot streaks in front of goal and Jagoba Arrasate will be hopeful that this could be the start of another. Osasuna are 5 points off 7th placed Athletic as it stands but victory here would really propel them closer to the European battle with the likes of Real Betis and Villarreal also still catchable.

Osasuna are in much better shape injury wise and they may just fancy this against a Cadiz side that has some quite big holes to fill in central defence and midfield. Sergio’s men have been giving up quite a lot of chances of late and they’ll do well to create much against a solid Osasuna side.
