Villarreal vs Real Valladolid Preview

Villarreal are one of the form teams in LaLiga right now and they are fighting hard for a top four finish. Victory over Real Valladolid would be another step in the right direction but the visitors need the points themselves as they battle for survival.
The Yellow Submarine come into this game after a fantastic 3-2 win away to Real Madrid. Quique Setien continued his impressive record at the Santiago Bernabeu with Samu Chukwueze the star performer in what was a 5th win in 6 LaLiga outings for Villarreal. The Nigerian has been one of those to benefit most from the change in coach with his promising young career stagnating to some extent under his predecessor, although there were still some bright moments.
Villarreal fans will be wary though that Setien’s reign so far has been a streaky affair with four straight league defeats prior to this current good patch. They’ll be expected to pick up all the points here but there are a few selection issues with regular starters Yeremi Pino and Juan Foyth both suspended while Gerard Moreno is still missing through injury.
Real Valladolid are something of an unknown quantity under their new coach with Paulo Pezzolano’s first game producing an unlikely 3-3 draw against a typically low-scoring Mallorca side. The 39 year old joins with a big reputation after a positive spell in Brazil with Cruzeiro but will quickly need to find his feet in Spain if his new team are going to win their relegation battle.
Vedat Muriqi’s 94th minute leveller last weekend was a bitter early blow in a game Real Valladolid would have been targeting for three points with or without the change in coach. This will clearly be tougher but the early signs were relatively positive, at least in an attacking sense for a team that had been struggling at both ends of the pitch under Pacheta, although all three goals against Mallorca came from midfielders rather than forwards.

Score Prediction: Villarreal 3-1 Real Valladolid
The very early signs suggest we may see a relatively positive approach from Real Valladolid under Pezzolano. If that’s the case here, we should certainly be in for a good game and a few goals, but on current form it’s hard to look past a Villarreal win.
