Sunday’s football in LaLiga kicks off at El Sadar where Real Valladolid are paying Osasuna a visit. The away team are in form and looking to really put the kind of run together that could thrust them well away from the thick of the relegation scrap.

Osasuna meanwhile are something of a frustrating outfit. Their early season performances and results were excellent and there was a real maturity to their away win at Almeria on matchday 5 which suggested they had kicked on following another mid-table finish last season. Yet since then, it’s just one win in six games and they’ve only managed to score four times over that period.

While Jagoba Arrasate has done a fantastic job at Osasuna, he is not totally immune to criticism and it does feel like he often struggles to decide on his best options in the final third with such regular changes not always helpful. There is rarely a clear sense of who the first choice striker is with Kike Garcia, Ante Budimir and Chimy Avila all used in the role within the space of the last three games.

Real Valladolid meanwhile came into the season with the expectation that Shon Weissman would be the man carrying their main goal threat. However he has been usurped by experienced forward Sergio Leon so far with the 33 year old netting 5 times while none of his teammates have scored more than once.

Those 5 goals from the former Betis man have all come within the space of the last 5 games too as Real Valladolid have claimed vital wins over Getafe, Celta Vigo and last time out against Real Sociedad. We have frequently seen over the years in LaLiga that newly promoted teams can sometimes find a real run of form early on in the campaign which can really set them up well for survival even if a decline sets in later on, and Pacheta will be hoping that his team are in the midst of one of those sequences.
