RB Leipzig vs Real Madrid Preview

Real Madrid travel to Germany this Tuesday to take on RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League group stage. The assignment is simple for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. They only need a point to win this group and that will be the objective on Tuesday night.
Los Blancos have already secured qualification to the next round. Antonio Rudiger’s late goal in Warsaw against Shakhtar Donetsk last time out ensured that and with a home game against Celtic still to come, Real Madrid have two very good shots at winning the group outright. That gives Ancelotti a bit of freedom to rotate his team here and give some minutes to some fringe players.
They come into this game after another victory with late goals from Lucas Vazquez and Fede Valverde sealing a 3-1 win over Sevilla in LaLiga. So far, almost everything has gone right for Real Madrid in the 2022/23 season and while their performances haven’t always been as good as the results, it’s hard to find too many faults in the Spanish and European champions.
Madrid are scoring plenty of goals in the latter stages of games and that was the case when these sides met on matchday 2. RB Leipzig left the Bernabeu having lost 2-0 and they were yet to record a single point at that stage. However they have since responded well with wins at home and away against Celtic to lift themselves up into 2nd place.
They could potentially secure qualification on the night with victory in this game coupled with a Shakhtar defeat in Glasgow. That would be some turnaround after Leipzig lost 4-1 at home to the Ukrainian side on matchday 1. The Red Bulls are bidding to make the knockout stage of this competition for the third time with their best showing coming in 2019/20 when they reached the Semi-Finals.
Possible Lineups (via Sofascore)
Score Prediction: RB Leipzig 1-1 Real Madrid
Real Madrid are likely to rotate some players here but with 1st place not yet secure, wholesale changes are unlikely. Leipzig will be more confident now following back-to-back UCL wins and they should make a real game of this, although Carlo Ancelotti’s side look capable of getting the point that will secure top spot.
