Real Sociedad vs Mallorca Preview
It’s back to the Reale Arena this Wednesday for in-form Real Sociedad and they have to fancy their chances of extending their winning streak against Javier Aguirre’s Mallorca.
There was a real risk that La Real’s considerable injury problems might hamper them during this early part of the season, but as it has turned out, they have managed to thrive over the past few weeks in both domestic and European competition. They’ve won their last four matches in LaLiga to rapidly climb the table, the most recent of which was a 2-1 triumph in Vigo last weekend.
That made it 4 wins from 5 away games this term in Spain and having also won at Old Trafford in Europa League action, it’s clear that Real Sociedad are enjoying life on their travels. They do sometimes find it tougher at home when teams sit back and defend in numbers and it seems highly probable that will be exactly Mallorca’s gameplan here.
Javier Aguirre’s side come into this following a 1-0 home defeat against Sevilla at the weekend. In another season that would have been a fairly expected result, but with the Andalusians struggling right now, Mallorca may have fancied their chances in the game. Indeed they did manage to restrict their opponents to only 4 attempts but struggled to produce much at the other end.
Top scorer Vedat Muriqi was suspended in that game and the Kosovo international is out again here which is far from ideal. Mallorca went with Abdon Prats up top against Sevilla but may turn to Angel Rodriguez for this game with the former Getafe man a capable finisher although he won’t be expecting too many chances.

Real Sociedad are playing with plenty of belief and no shortage of quality either at the moment and it’s hard to see them not having the edge in this game. They’ve been rotating lightly in recent weeks and it hasn’t cost them yet so they should still have enough fresh legs to win this.
