Cadiz vs Real Betis Preview

It’s another Andalusian derby this Wednesday for Betis. Fresh from a 3-1 win over Almeria at the weekend, they make the relatively short trip to Cadiz this week looking for further joy against regional rivals.
Cadiz have found a bit of form though, at least in terms of not losing games. They are four unbeaten heading into this, which is some turnaround for a side that were woefully poor at times during the opening five weeks of the season, losing all those games without scoring.
Sergio deserves some credit for turning things around and defensively they’ve certainly looked more assured with just 3 goals conceded in their last 4 matches. However they have still ridden their luck at times and there are obvious limitations in terms of what they can offer in an attacking sense. They’d most likely settle for what would be a 4th straight draw here and that would keep their points tally ticking along, although it won’t be enough to keep them out of the relegation zone.
Betis will certainly be eyeing up all three points but they will struggle to get them unless they can find a way to keep their full quota of players on the pitch. They’ve been reduced to 10 men in the 1st Halves of their last two away games and they’ve not scored on their travels since a 2-1 defeat at Real Madrid on matchday 4.
Another concern for Manuel Pellegrini right now will be trying to keep his players fresh with injuries starting to take their toll in some areas of the pitch. The continued absences of Nabil Fekir and Juanmi are particularly significant and place extra burden on Sergio Canales who has been outstanding again this season but does come with an injury-prone reputation of his own and could probably do with a rest here in truth.

Score Prediction: Cadiz 1-1 Real Betis
Cadiz are competing much better now and they should be able to make a game of this against what is likely to be a Betis team featuring several changes from the weekend. They have coped pretty well with the challenges of playing two games a week this season so far given they’ve had plenty of European matches, but it’s tough to keep doing it and there may just be a bit of fatigue starting to creep in now after a busy fortnight which has included two big Thursday night games against Roma.
