Sevilla vs Manchester City Preview
The Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán welcomes English juggernauts Manchester City for matchday one of the UEFA Champions League campaign. The home faithful will dread the sight of Man City touching their pitch as they’re lacking any sort of form or rhythm. Meanwhile, the Citizens are eager to bounce back after their Premier league draw against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Sevilla’s most recent defeat came against FC Barcelona. Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Eric Garcia all netted in the 3-0 loss on Saturday. Isco and Rakitic created some promising situations in the opening minutes, but ultimately, Sevilla weren’t good enough on the night.

Last season they had the best defensive record in the league, conceding only 30 goals in 38 games. During the transfer window, they lost their starting centre-back partnership and now they’re conceding goals for fun. Julen Lopetegui has to find a solution to strengthen his defence but will believe the goals will come naturally at the other other end as they’re blessed with some talented midfielders and attackers. Sevilla’s players and fans want to play good football, but at the moment, results should be the priority.

Steven Gerrard’s side held them to a 1-1 draw with Erling Haaland scoring his 10th goal of the season before Jamaican international Leon Bailey equalised. They’ll be disappointed to have dropped points at struggling Villa, but they’ll still be favourites for the title in England, although this competition has so far eluded them.
Haaland is a man on a mission this season. He has 10 goals in 6 games and will have his eyes set on silverware this term. Of course he wants to win his first Premier League, but his main objective will be to lead City to their first Champions League title. His journey starts on Tuesday and he’ll fancy his chances against Sevilla’s fragile defence.

I’m afraid that this could be the start of the end of Julen Lopetegui’s tenure at Sevilla. Haaland and Manchester City can do loads of damage to the 6 time Europa League champions. We expect Man City to make light work of this game, but as we know in football, nothing’s for certain. Ultimately, I still see Man City coming out victorious.
