It’s judgement day for Mallorca who travel to El Sadar knowing a win would guarantee themselves a place in the top flight next season. Anything less and Cadiz could leapfrog the Balearic Islanders with the Andalusian side having a more favourable final day fixture at already relegated Alaves.

Javier Aguirre has been in this situation before and one of the many interesting subplots on Sunday is the fact that he is a legendary figure at El Sadar having taken Osasuna into the Champions League in 2005/06. He won’t be expecting too many favours from his old team here although Osasuna may well rotate and give some of their fringe players a chance with nothing much at stake for the hosts.

Osasuna are guaranteed a top half finish no matter what else happens this weekend in the other games. That represents another very strong season for Jagoba Arrasate and his team and they will no doubt get a good send-off from their supporters as they head into the summer break. Things have tailed off a fraction in recent weeks with Osasuna winless in 5 league games heading into this, although with draws in 3 of their last 4, it’s not like they’ve totally switched off as some teams do at this stage in the season.

Mallorca will be expecting a tough game but they take momentum into it after a dramatic late win against Rayo Vallecano last weekend. Abdon Prats popped up with a 92nd minute goal to reaffirm his status as something of a cult hero in Palma. The 29 year old striker has ridden the highs and lows with this club in recent years and despite his obvious limitations, frequently comes good at the business end of the season.

The visitors are certainly no strangers to end of season drama. They’ve either been promoted or relegated in each of the last five seasons and they are desperate to end that yo-yo streak here. They know what they need to do but their recent away record does not make for good reading. Mallorca have taken just 1 point from their last 10 away league games, although that did come in the most recent one, a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Sevilla.

Osasuna vs Mallorca Predictions

Score Prediction: Osasuna 1-1 Mallorca

In ordinary circumstances, you wouldn’t fancy Mallorca’s chances too much in this fixture but they will be favourites at El Sadar on Sunday. Osasuna are a disciplined, hard-working team though and it’s hard to see them being a soft touch here as some side’s might be in their situation. Given their woeful away record, Mallorca may still need a favour from Alaves in Vitoria if they are going to beat the drop on Sunday.
