Real Betis and Granada meet in what is an important game for both sides on Sunday. It’s an Andalusian derby as well but that will be far from the minds of the two coaches as they prepare their teams for this clash.

Betis are sitting pretty in 5th place and already have Europa League football guaranteed for 2022/23 as a result of their Copa del Rey win. However they still have an outside shot of piping rivals Sevilla to 4th place and clinching Champions League qualification which would turn what has already been a great season for Beticos into an absolutely unbelievable one. To do that, Betis do need to win both of their remaining games and hope Sevilla lose both of theirs.

That will be easier said than done given Betis are away to Real Madrid on the final weekend but they may expect to face a weakened Madrid XI given the Champions League Final is on the horizon. Manuel Pellegrini’s side may live to regret recent home defeats against Elche and Barcelona but they did bounce back well in midweek, winning 3-0 at Valencia to ensure they approach this game in good spirits.

Granada are fighting hard for their lives though and aren’t going to roll over quite so easily. Their situation appeared pretty bleak only a week ago, but Aitor Karanka’s team went to relegation rivals Mallorca and produced a stunning performance to win 6-2. They then hosted Athletic in midweek and while there were some very nervy moments in Stoppage Time as the visitors struck the post, they held on for a 1-0 win which moved them up onto 37 points, 4 clear of the drop-zone.

Only a win here would absolutely guarantee them safety but it is possible that they could lose and still have their survival confirmed on Sunday if results work out in their favour elsewhere. They do have the safety net of a very winnable final day fixture at home to Espanyol too, so it’s looking pretty good for Granada now and that’s largely thanks to the impact Karanka has made with 8 points from 4 games under his guidance, a major improvement.

Real Betis vs Granada Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Betis 2-1 Granada

This is likely to be a competitive game and Granada should make a real fight of it with confidence in their camp high after some excellent recent results. Betis are used to playing midweek and weekend games though and could be the fresher side here with the likes of Borja Iglesias and Juanmi rested in midweek. The hosts may just have the edge.
