We are at that time of the season when you do get some strange things happening and one-sided games are not uncommon, particularly when one team has nothing left to compete for. Three teams this weekend were notable for just how little of a goal threat they offered. Valencia, Alaves and Elche created just 0.33 xG between them on Saturday, a staggeringly low return. While mid-table Valencia and Elche can somewhat be forgiven for that, struggling Alaves’ ability to have just 3 attempts in a 4-0 defeat in Vigo was the strongest indicator yet that they are heading for the Segunda Division.
The Vitoria side’s miserable weekend was compounded by wins for fellow strugglers Levante, Cadiz and Granada. The latter surprisingly hit 6 in a huge six-pointer at Mallorca, despite having the lowest pass completion percentage of any team in LaLiga this matchday.
As is often the case in any big win, Granada were the biggest xG over-performers. They actually created 0.05 xG fewer than Villarreal who could only net once in their draw with Sevilla as the Yellow Submarine missed a good chance to close in on the Europa League places.

On the individual front this week, David Silva really shone with a goal and 8 key passes for Real Sociedad in their 2-1 defeat at Levante. It was a really entertaining game in which La Real certainly should have scored more than once. Silva is certainly hitting a bit of form towards the end of the campaign, having also starred in Real Sociedad’s recent win at Elche. The 36 year old has already earned a one-year contract extension despite what has been a somewhat underwhelming return to Spanish football overall for the legendary midfielder.
Samu Chukwueze was another to hit big numbers with an impressive 10 dribbles completed in Villarreal’s draw with Sevilla. The Nigerian international has had a frustrating season to some extent with Yeremi Pino often preferred on the right flank for the Yellow Submarine but this was another timely reminder of his talents.
Sorare LaLiga Fantasy Team of the Week
Solid defensive foundations this week start with goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, one of the revelations of this LaLiga season, after another clean sheet for Valencia. It was also a good weekend for left-backs who were responsible for three of the top five point scores with Celta’s Javi Galan, who has been linked with a summer move to Barcelona, impressing again.
Further up the pitch, the aforementioned David Silva and Celta’s Denis Suarez also posted big numbers while there were 90+ scores from Iago Aspas and Jorge Molina. The duo have a combined age of 74 but continue to show they can cut it at this level with both bagging braces in big wins this weekend.
Sorare Player of the Week: Jordi Alba (99)
For the second weekend in a row, Jordi Alba was the highest scoring player in LaLiga, with the Barcelona left-back firing in a cracking late volley to seal victory for his team at Betis, and with it Champions League qualification.
Sorare is a Fantasy Football platform with one of the most advanced scoring matrices. All players are scored from 0-100 based on performance. You can read our latest Sorare content here to find out more about it.
